LITHO CLEAR SERIES D49-99

DESCRIPTION:  D49-99 Litho Clear is an NVP-free, high-gloss overprint varnish primarily formulated for coating over offset litho inks. It exhibits very high cure-speeds with excellent slip and scuff resistance. D49-99 also has excellent non-yellowing properties and adhesion.

SUBSTRATES AND APPLICATIONS:  Most offset-printed paper and various coated-card stocks; can also be used for some dry-erase marker pens. D49-99 is not recommended for outdoor exposure.

NOTE: Pretest all substrates prior to use in production.

COVERAGE:  D49-99 Litho Clear will cover approximately 3500 sq. ft. per gallon when printed through a 420/in. (165/cm) or finer, monofilament polyester mesh.

GLOSS LEVEL:  85% to 90% gloss (60° angle) when printed through a 420/in. (165/cm) mesh.

STENCIL:  Direct photoemulsions or capillary film.

SCREEN MESH:  420-460/in. (165-180/cm) monofilament polyester.

SQUEEGEE:  Sharp urethane squeegee of approximately 80-90 durometer.

MODIFICATION:  D49-99 Litho Clear has been formulated to print straight from the container without any reduction. However, if reduction is required, up to 10% by weight of ST-319 Viscosity Modifier may be added.

Another product, D40-S190 Multi-Graphic Overprint Clear, may be blended with D49-99, or used to replace it under certain circumstances. D40-S190 is based on the chemistry of the D40 Multi-Graphic series, and shares its broad adhesion to a wide range of paper and plastic substrates. (See D40 Multi-Graphic Product Data Sheet for more information.) Blending D40-S190 Multi-Graphic Overprint Clear with D49-99 Litho Clear may help to enhance adhesion or wetting over particularly unreceptive litho inks. However, D40-S190 is 50% slower curing, slightly lower gloss, slightly softer and less resistant to dry-erase marker pens than D49-99, so any blend of the two clears will result in intermediate performance and cured-film properties.

NOTE: The performance of D49-99 and D40-S190, but especially any blend of the two, must be fully evaluated and confirmed under actual production and end-use conditions before being used in full production.

CURING:  Cure-speeds of 80-90 fpm with a 1x200 watt/in. mercury vapor lamp are possible.

WASH-UP:  Screens may be cleaned with ET-5 Retarder, VL Wash or many commercial screen washes.

STORAGE:  All U.V. curing products should be stored in closed containers at temperatures below 90° F (32° C). D49-99 should always be premixed prior to printing.

HEALTH & SAFETY: As with all inks, gloves and safety goggles should be used when using this product. For more complete information, refer to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet.

In accordance with information received from suppliers, D49-99 is formulated without heavy metals and complies with 16 CFR, Part 1303, ANSI Z66.1-1964, ASTM F and CONEG packaging regulations.
