J SERIES J

APPLICATION: Coates Screen inks J series are suitable for printing onto thermo-plastics and especially for various PVC substrates, however not for polyolefins. Limited applicability for polystyrene and its copolymers (no or little adhesion of transparent, bronze and halftone inks and also J-E50 clear) Due to different properties of the substrates, pretests are recommended.

CHARACTERISTICS:  J series printing inks are quick drying and show a semi matte to matte finish. Depending on ink shade, they have medium to good opacity. J inks are weather resistant and resistant against alcohol.

J series inks are especially suited for the production of double-sided decals. For this purpose we offer highly opaque whites and a light-blocking intercoat silver ink. Except black and the bronze shades, all J ink shades and J66 black are suitable for high frequency welding. Addition of J-E50 will improve weldability of J ink shades.

PIGMENTS/LIGHTFASTNESS:  HG inks are available in C-Mix 2000 blending shades, 4 color process, transparent shades, metallics and special dyes. If blended inks are mixed to contain high contents of white or clear, lightfastness is reduced.

ADJUSTMENT FOR PRINTING:  Prior to processing, J series inks are adjusted using their corresponding thinner and retarder, JVS, JVH, Universal thinners UV1-UV4 can also be used.

DRYING:  J series inks air dry by evaporation of solvents. Drying time is approx. 2-5 minutes at room temperature. Drying times of 15-25 sec. Can be achieved in a belt dryer at temperatures of approx. 104-122° F (50° C).

BRONZE INKS:  For bronze prints, J-E50 clear can be mixed with bronze pastes and powders B75 to B79. Mixing ratios by weight should be:

If bronze inks have to be overprinted, we recommend the addition of 10-30%, J-E50 to the mixtures. In all cases, it is essential to check the overprintability. Due to the influence of humidity and oxidation components in the air, bronze prints tend to oxidize. Overprinting the bronze screen prints will delay this oxidation process for some time.

OVERPRINTING:  For decorative application, or when exterior durability is not required, J-E50 Clear may be used to overprint J inks.

For maximum exterior durability, an alternative product, OPC-190 Overprint Clear, is recommended. OPC-190 is specially formulated for use only as an overprint clear.

If required, OPC-190 may be reduced with 5-15% by weight of ST-280 Overprint Clear Reducer.

NOTE: Pretest OPC-190 prior to use in production.

COVERAGE:  When printed through a 230/in. [90/cm] mesh, one gallon of J will cover approx. 1200 square feet.

STENCIL:  Direct photo emulsion, capillary film, indirect stencils or solvent resistant stencil

SQUEEGEE:  Medium to hard durometer urethane squeegee.

CLEANING:  J inks can be removed from stencils and tools using universal cleaning agent URS or URS3.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:  As with all inks, gloves and safety goggles should be used when handling this product. For more complete information, refer to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheet.
