Product Description
Delta is a 4 mil (100 micron) polyester based film that is front side coated with a toner receptive layer and back side coated with an anti-static layer. The anti-static layer allows for stack feeding in your laser printer. Delta is suitable for imaging directly from a laser printer or photocopier for the production of film positives and negatives for all screen printing applications.  Delta works by the principle that the matted layer increases the surface area of the film to maximize the toner deposit, thus providing sufficient density for use as a film positive or negative.
Applications
The main restriction for Delta applications is simply the size of the laser printer. Typically laser printers use 8 1/2" x 11", 8 1/2" x 14" or 11" x 17" formats. Some laser printers will allow oversize films i.e. 12" x 20" to be used to produce full 11" x 17" images.  The market where this format is suitable is screen printing for applications such as T-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, piece goods, small
signage, nameplates, letterheads and industrial.

Typical Delta users are small to medium size companies that produce their artwork on a computer system i.e. DTP system.  Customers would design their job on the computer and save it to disk. The disk would then be sent to an outside source to produce a film positive. Delta offers these customers significant cost savings - produced 8 1/2" x 11" film positives can cost $10.00 or more. The customer would also benefit from the speed of producing films in-house. Delta is more suited for customers using film positives rather than film negatives.

Imaging Restrictions
The image definition is determined by the resolution of the laser printer. The higher the resolution the better the edge definition, although 600 dpi is perfect for most applications requiring fine detail.

                             300 dpi              Some Sawtoothing
                            600/800 dpi        Good Edge Definition
1200 dpi            Very Good Edge Definition

Density

The UV density of the image produced is totally dependent on the type of laser printer being used. However, fine detail will have a greater UV density than block areas due to the way laser printers work.

Do not use a traditional darkroom transmission densitometer to test the UV density of Delta. These densitometers measure the transmission of white light and are suitable only for use with silver films. Screen photostencils are sensitive to UV light only (350-440nM) and therefore only UV transmission densitometers can be used.

Working Instructions

The processing of Delta is simple. Proof the output onto paper first and then replace the paper in the laser printer with Delta. Be sure to print your image on the matte (dull) side of the film. When possible, the highest toner setting should be used. However, if this leads to either "ghosting" (use Delta problem solving guide) or toner scatter in the open areas, the toner setting should be reduced. Laser printers do vary considerably in output performance due to the engines used.

The new range of "Platemaker"/11" x 17" laser printers are especially good for processing Delta as they use a high temperature fuser unit to reflow the toner. This enhances the density considerably in solid block areas.

Sizes Available

Delta is packaged in 100 sheet boxes of the following sizes:
     8.5" x 11", 8.5" x 14", 11" x 17", 12" x 20" & 12" x 25".
