OYO Thermal Media

OYO's unique, chemistry-free, dry imaging ThermoImpression film requires no fixers, developers, inks, or toners, yet offers UV densities that exceed industry standards.

If you are seeking cost-effective productivity benefits, OYO Instruments has the right prepress solution for your company. ThermoImpression films are available in XP, SP and Proofing Media in sizes from 18" through 54" wide format. For information on these films or the Oyo Thermal Imagesetter equipment, please contact us at Photo Chemical Systems.

The XP film has been introduced and is now available for purchase. A customer should be aware that this film does have different characteristics than the original SP film. The contrast level of the Imagesetter may need to be adjusted for optimum print quality.

The following is a guide to getting the best result from the XP film.

 1. After loading the XP film, take the system offline, go to the System Tests menu, use the Parm+ or Parm- key until the Contrast Test appears on the display. Hit Enter to run the Contrast Test. Hit Enter again to run from -35% to +20%.

 2. The Contrast Test should be evaluated on a light table using a 10x or stronger loop. Start with the first contrast level that appears well formed with adequate density. Using the loop, check to see if there is any separation between the scan lines that form the image. Also check for good definition along the edge of the square. If not dense enough, check the next level up. The ideal is to find a good contrast setting that does not overexpose the media. When overexposed, pinholing can occur. The head life of the Imagesetter may also be reduced when operated at unnecessarily high contrast levels.

 3. To change the contrast level, take the Imagesetter offline, use the Menu key until the Image Menu is reached, press the Item key until Image Contrast is displayed, use the Parm+ or Parm- keys until the desired contrast level is displayed. Press the Enter key to confirm the change.

 4. After the contrast level is set, the length calibration of the machine should be checked. Take the Imagesetter offline, go again to the System Tests menu and scroll through until you find Plot Calibration. This test will give you a choice of lengths to run. Any of the choices will work, but for the most accurate results a 60 inch test length should be run.

 5. Measure the test print as accurately as possible from the center of the top line to the center of the bottom line. Enter the exact measured value by using the Parm+ or Parm- key to change numerical values and the Enter key to confirm the number. Another test print can be run to verify length accuracy. If accuracy is not achieved refer to the manual on running the Open Loop Check calibration.
